The workforce challenge in Apparel & General Retail
Retail floors carry a hard set of pressures at once. Footfall has to convert, and conversion depends on associates who know the product and represent the brand well. Standards have to hold across every door, from a flagship to a mall counter to a franchise outlet. Shrinkage has to be controlled. And staffing has to flex for weekends, season changes, end-of-season sales and festive peaks without the floor ever looking understaffed.
On top of this sits high attrition. Store associates churn quickly, and each exit costs training time, product knowledge and floor consistency. A premium fashion brand also cannot accept the same grooming, behaviour and selling standard as a value format. The workforce model has to fit the brand, not just fill the roster.
